Swim England (SEQ) Level 1 & 2 Swimming (Teacher) - combined course

This course can also be attended as Swim England Level 2 (Teacher) stand alone

This Course is being offered as Combined SEQ Level 1 & 2 and Just the SEQ Level 2 for those that already hold the SEQ Level 1 Qualification

Both courses are delivered holistically and learners are assessed depending on which qualification pathway they are doing, this in essence means that learners won't be assessed on Level 1 if they already hold the qualification

All sessions whether zoom, class or practical must be attended and by attending the course we do not guarentee that you will pass, we sincerely hope you do, however learners must take responsibility for completing all tasks, by the stated deadlines set by our course tutors.

You will need access to a laptop, so that you can use google classroom for course submission  


SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching)
This course develops your knowledge, skills and abilities as an assistant swimming teacher. It will enable you to actively support a qualified swimming teacher in the delivery of a planned learn to swim session.

Course content

You will learn about:

The legal aspects of assisting in swimming lessons
The responsibilities of a Swimming Assistant
The swimming pathway, fundamental movement, core aquatic skills and component parts of strokes
Scientific principles of swimming
What makes up a lesson plan, equipment and communications skills
How to identify anxiety and use of motivational techniques
The type of assistance you can provide

SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming Course content

You will learn about:

The responsibilities and role of a swimming teacher
How the scientific principles of swimming impact on development
How to develop core aquatic skills and the four strokes
How to identify and correct common swimming faults
How to use a variety of teaching techniques and equipment to suit different needs
How to plan and deliver inclusive lessons for different levels of ability. Includes adaptations for swimmers with special educational needs and disabilities.
Key teaching and management skills including class management and assessment, organisational skills, behaviour management, communication skills, and teaching methods
National curriculum swimming lessons and how they differ from learn to swim lessons

The course is run over 7/8 days and it is essential that all sessions are attended.

Learners must be 16 years of age at the START of the course - THIS A SWIM ENGLAND REQUIREMENT

SEQ Combined Level 1 & 2 and SEQ Level 2 Swimming Teacher Course - Joy Lane January 2025

Level 2 Teaching Swimming to include: Learners must also hold the SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching), an ASA Level 1 Award in Teaching Aquatics, or an equivalent ASA qualification certificated after 1994.

This course is run in conjunction with the SEQ Combined Level 1 & 2 Teaching Swimming Qualification

The SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification is a practical qualification for individuals wanting to progress from their SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification, or SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming to Babies and Toddlers qualification.

This qualification has been endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) as meeting the requirements of the professional standard for the role of a Swimming Teacher and provides 10 CIMSPA CPD points.

This qualification will enable you to effectively plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate swimming lessons independently. It also gives you the skills and confidence to provide quality, inclusive and fun swimming lessons.

You will learn about:

-The role and responsibilities of a Swimming Teacher
-The role in promoting aquatics
-How to plan overviews and swimming lesson plans for a range of ability groups
-How teach safe, inclusive and effective swimming lessons to a range of ability groups
-The influence of scientific principles on a participant in the water
-How to meet the needs of participants
-How to assess participants at the correct level
-How to demonstrate lesson management skills
-How to supervise and instruct a Swimming Assistant
-How to develop participants Core Aquatic Skills (CAS)
-How to develop participants swimming strokes
-How to demonstrate effective communication skills
-How to evaluate your own performance
-How to plan for professional development

By the end of this course, you will be able to effectively plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate swimming lessons independently.

The course is spread over a number of dates and it is vital that all sessions are attended, in addition there is homework and planning activities that need to be completed within strict time frames in order to achieve the qualification - failure to adhere to the deadlines set is likely to lead to non-completion and there will be additional fees added.

It is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that they manage their time effectively during the course to keep on top of the work.

In the event of a learner not achieving the required standard, learners may need to do additional training and this is likely to have a cost implication for the learner.
